Dermatology is a specialised and increasingly important area of healthcare in Australia, where skin conditions are common and skin cancer rates are among the highest globally, affecting over two in three Australians. As demand grows, nurses need strong foundational knowledge to deliver safe, consistent, and high‑quality care.

The Certificate in Basic Clinical and Procedural Skills for Dermatological Nurses provides a structured, accessible pathway for nurses to build essential knowledge and support high‑quality patient care.

The course is developed and delivered by the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) / Dermatology Australasia, in collaboration with the Australian Dermatology Nurses Association (ADNA).

When will the training be conducted?

Participants may enrol at anytime once the course opens in August 2026. The online course will be accessible via the Dermatology Australasia learning platform, allowing learners to progress through modules at their own pace.

There is no face‑to‑face or practical workshop component. All learning is completed online through course modules and knowledge‑based assessments.

Students are permitted up to two years to complete the course, providing flexibility to balance professional and personal commitments.

What does the training component include?

The course consists of a total of approximately 32–40 hours of self‑paced study delivered through an online learning platform.

This includes:

  • 6 self‑paced core modules, covering key areas such as skin anatomy, patient management, wound care, phototherapy, inflammatory conditions, and local anaesthetic
  • 2 elective modules, selected from a range of procedural and practice‑based topics including sterilisation, photodynamic therapy, PRP, suturing, and curettage and cautery
  • Online knowledge‑based quizzes, allowing multiple attempts to support learning and understanding
How much is the course?
  • ADNA members: $600 + GST
  • Non‑members: $1,200 + GST

Enrolment fees are non‑refundable. Course fees are subject to periodic review.

How do I register?

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Upon successful completion of all required modules, you will receive a certificate of completion, co‑branded by the Australasian College of Dermatologists and ADNA.

Can my employer support my enrolment?

Yes. Many dermatology clinics choose to support nurse training. The course is designed to help clinics standardise knowledge and reduce onboarding time for dermatology nursing skills.
