This course is designed for nurses working, or intending to work, in dermatology settings. It provides foundational knowledge and skills to support the day‑to‑day care, treatment and management of patients in dermatological practice.
Dermatological nurses play a key role in:
- Assessing and documenting skin conditions
- Supporting dermatological procedures
- Providing patient education and care
- Assisting in treatment and monitoring
- Maintaining clinical records
The course focuses on the safe application of clinical knowledge and procedural skills relevant to dermatology nursing practice.

To complete the certificate, students must successfully complete all 6 core modules and 2 elective modules.
Students may also complete modules individually and receive a certificate of completion for each module.

Assessment activities include:
- Online, knowledge‑based quizzes
- Tutorial‑based MCQs focused on problem solving
- Case study reflections (where applicable)
- Individual research on current practice
Elective Modules
Elective Modules
Students must select two elective modules to complete the certificate. The electives provide the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in specific areas of dermatological practice.
Once you have enrolled in the course, you will be required to complete an elective selection form to confirm the two elective modules you wish to undertake.
1. Cryotherapy
This module focuses on the use of cryotherapy in clinical practice, including:
- Identifying conditions appropriate for cryotherapy
- Understanding advantages, limitations and risks
- Performing cryotherapy for different conditions
- Managing pre and post treatment patient care
2. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
This module introduces the principles and application of photodynamic therapy, including:
- Effects on skin anatomy and immune response
- Indications for treatment
- Understanding Psoralen and its role
- Treatment protocols, safety considerations and side‑effects
- Patient education and ongoing management
3. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
This module provides an overview of PRP procedures and applications, including:
- Blood collection and platelet extraction
- Mechanism of action and growth factors
- Processing and activation techniques
- Safety protocols and infection control
- Patient selection, monitoring and education
4. Suturing
This module covers fundamental suturing knowledge and skills, including:
- Types of suture materials and techniques
- Selecting appropriate suturing approaches
- Wound assessment and management
- Post‑procedure care and patient education
5. Curettage and Cautery
This module focuses on the use of curettage and cautery in dermatological treatment, including:
- Identifying suitable clinical presentations
- Understanding advantages, limitations and risks
- Performing procedures across different conditions
- Managing adverse outcomes and post‑treatment care
Course Fees

- ADNA members: $600 + GST
- Non‑members: $1,200 + GST
A 10% GST charge applies to all course fees and is calculated at the checkout.
To access the member rate, students are required to:
- Obtain proof of current ADNA membership directly from ADNA (e.g. email or letter), and
- Submit this evidence prior to enrolment
Enrolment fees are non‑refundable. Course fees are subject to periodic review.
