Outline & Components
In this course, students will learn the principles of confocal microscopy, the operation of the confocal microscope, and the process of image acquisition. Students will develop the knowledge and skills required to correctly acquire quality confocal microscopy images of selected skin lesions and transmit those images to a confocal microscopy expert for interpretation.
This course is comprised of 8 online modules, each containing one or more tutorials and assessment quizzes. Students must complete all modules and associated assessments.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to safely acquire quality representative images using in vivo reflectance cutaneous confocal microscopy and transmit them for expert interpretation.

Required Hours
This course requires 8 hours of online and self‑directed learning, including end‑of‑topic quizzes, and 8–40 hours of hands‑on workshop training and self‑directed image acquisition practice following completion of the online modules.
You will have 16 weeks to complete your course from date of enrolment.

One fee includes access to the course for the duration of study including all learning material and resources:
$1,500 +GST
Please note that travel and accommodation expenses for the face to face workshop are not included.
A 10% GST charge applies to all course fees and is calculated at the checkout.

Course Learning Outcomes
At the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles of in vivo cutaneous confocal microscopy, including indications and limitations
Identify normal skin appearance on confocal microscopy
Safely operate the in vivo reflectance confocal microscope, including CaliberID 1500 and 3000 microscopes
Accurately identify skin lesions for confocal microscopy imaging and identify the correct imaging protocol based on size, location, dermoscopy and provisional diagnosis
Apply the correct nomenclature
Apply quality assurance principles and legal considerations, including correct patient identification, labelling, storage, transmission and communication of results

Dermatologists with AHPRA registration or international equivalent
General Practitioners with AHPRA registration or international equivalent
Medical professionals with Melanography Accreditation
Anatomical Pathologists with AHPRA registration or international equivalent
Clinical trial confocal microscopy imaging technicians

Workshop Information
Please do not book flights or accommodation until the workshop dates are confirmed on the website, as they are subject to change depending on student numbers. If you do choose to book in advance, please ensure your arrangements are fully refundable.
As considerable costs are involved with planning our workshops, the following charges will apply to enroll for another workshop, should you miss the one that you are registered for:
Cancellation prior to 7 days of the workshop: You can enroll in the next workshop at no additional cost
Cancellation within 7 days of workshop: $475
Cancellation within 48 hours of workshop: $950
Health issues and other extenuating circumstances with supporting documentation provided, will be considered for fee exemption, upon consultations with one of our team members.
Effective 1 July 2025, a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be applied to all course fees in accordance with Australian tax regulations. This charge will be automatically calculated and displayed at the checkout.
